The launch conference of the UAF Scholars at Risk project in the Netherlands will take place on Thursday, 18 June 2009 in Amsterdam. The project is a joint initiative of the University Assistance Fund (UAF) and the Scholars at Risk (SAR) network in defence of threatened and refugee scholars, academic freedom and university values worldwide. Speakers include:
- Ruud Lubbers: Former United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Minister of State and University Assistance Fund-Chair
- Robbert Dijkgraaf: President of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences
- Sebastiaan Kortmann, Rector Magnificus, Radboud University Nijmegen and Chairman of the Conference of Rectors 2008-2009
- Shula Marks FBA, Emeritus Professor, School of Oriental and African Studies University of London and Honorary Professor University of Cape Town
