Afghanistan: SAR files submission to the UN Universal Periodic Review

On October 10th, 2023, SAR filed a submission on Afghanistan to the United Nations Universal Periodic Review (UPR). The submission, which was drafted by the Academic Freedom Advocacy Clinic at the University of Turino, analyzes the period leading up to, and following, the Taliban’s takeover of the country. During these years, Afghanistan saw many of the most violent, mass attacks on higher education spaces in the world; likewise, especially in the period since assuming power, the Taliban’s restrictions on education for women and girls are among the attacks SAR has documented.
