Translating 25 years of lessons into global impact

Posted September 10, 2026

This anniversary year, SAR reflects on how lessons from the past 25 years have expanded our ability to ensure threatened academics find safety, rebuild, and thrive. Over the 2025-26 year, SAR leveraged new and existing partnerships to develop new placement opportunities, create pathways for greater engagement with academic associations, facilitate conference access, and provide digital safety resources. SAR also partnered with member institutions to pilot academic training programs and foster increased opportunities for scholar-to-scholar and mentor connections.

These services reflect support for 475 scholars and practitioners, 128 placements at higher education institutions in 13 countries, and over 2800 services related to scholars’ career and professional development across diverse fields — from epidemiology and public health to urban planning and economics.

“The opportunities provided by SAR have not only enabled me to continue my scholarly pursuits but have also empowered me to advocate for human rights and academic liberty.

–Scholar testimony, SAR 2025 Scholar Survey Report

Our impact this year was made possible by the incredible commitment and growth of the SAR network. Together, we continue to reimagine what is possible in the face of today’s challenges. Thank you for a wonderful year of partnership, and we look forward to the year ahead!
