Wednesday, Dec 11 2019 9:00 am
Three SAR scholars will be visiting TU Darmstadt for public speaking engagements in the upcoming months. In a Speaker Series event on December 11, a SAR scholar will explore competing narratives of academic displacement. On January 15, a SAR scholar will present on “Chemistry, Academia & Venezuelan Politics.” Finally, on February 12, a SAR Scholar will give a public lecture, “Gender, Body and Agency in the struggles for environmental justice.” Through this speaker series, TU Darmstadt wishes to inform campus communities as well as the public about threats to academic freedom and attacks on scholars around the world.
The invited scholars will draw from their experience to share their personal insights pertaining to academic freedom. In addition, they will discuss their academic achievements and how being at risk has affected their research and the implications, these threats may have on society as a whole. The audience will have a chance to hear about these scholars’ extraordinary examples of commitment to academic inquiry and integrity, thereby gaining a deeper appreciation of the vital role scholars and higher education institutions can and should play in society.
