Saturday, Mar 04 2017 10:00 am
A Chinese SAR scholar of law and human rights will be featured on a panel discussion and deliver lectures during a week-long residency at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
On March 8 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, the scholar will be the featured speaker on a panel entitled “The Long Arm of the Chinese Communist Party: Restricting Academic Freedom in China and Abroad.” Citing the Chinese Communist Party’s demand for greater control over academics and universities, this panel will discuss the Chinese government’s capacity to negatively affect academic freedom outside mainland China, including the United States. The talk will conclude with an analysis of the state of academic freedom in Hong Kong.
This event is free and open to the public.
