As Senior Program Officer, North America, Chelsea supports network engagement across SAR’s 200 members in North America, including hosting threatened scholars, participation in advocacy activities, and research, workshops, and learning opportunities relating to the promotion of academic freedom and higher education values. Prior to joining SAR, Dr. Blackburn Cohen was involved in research projects at the Wisconsin Center for Education Research (WCER) and the School of Education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She has authored and co-authored book chapters, peer-reviewed journal articles, and essays on topics such as the globalization of higher education, knowledge production, academic freedom, and critical theory. Blackburn Cohen has a PhD in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She serves on the Advisory Board for Partners for Campus-Community Engagement and is an active volunteer in her community association’s public land and stewardship committee.
