Leona Binz is the Program Assistant for Protection Services at Scholars at Risk, where she assesses applications for placement from potentially at-risk scholars. Prior to joining SAR, she interned with the German section of Amnesty International, and the Peruvian human rights organization Coordinadora Nacional de Derechos Humanos. She also spent time volunteering at a women’s rights organization in Bolivia and conducting a participatory community development project in Caldas, Colombia. Leona received her M.A. in International Affairs with a focus on Governance and Rights from The New School in 2017 and her B.A. in Cultural Anthropology from the Free University in Berlin. She speaks fluent German and Spanish and has a working knowledge of Portuguese.
