As Program Officer for Scholars at Risk’s Protection Services, Leona Binz assesses applications for assistance from potentially at-risk scholars and works with scholars and universities to seek placements within the network. Prior to joining SAR, Leona worked as a Program Assistant for the Transregional Center for Democratic Studies at The New School and completed internships with Amnesty International and the Peruvian human rights organization Coordinadora Nacional de Derechos Humanos. Leona holds an M.A. in International Affairs from The New School and a B.A. in Cultural Anthropology from the Free University of Berlin. She speaks fluent German and Spanish, has a working knowledge of Portuguese, and is learning Turkish.
