Leona Binz

As Program Officer for Scholars at Risk’s Protection Services, Leona Binz works with scholars and universities to seek placements within the network and coordinates SAR’s Practitioners at Risk program for at-risk democracy and human rights defenders. Prior to joining SAR, Leona worked at the Transregional Center for Democratic Studies at The New School, completed internships with Amnesty International and the Peruvian human rights organization Coordinadora Nacional de Derechos Humanos, and served as a German Development Service Volunteer at the women’s rights organization Colectivo Rebeldía in Bolivia. Leona holds an M.A. in International Affairs from The New School and a B.A. in Cultural Anthropology from the Free University of Berlin. She speaks German, fluent Spanish, and intermediate Portuguese and Turkish.
