Nate Schenkkan

Nate Schenkkan is Director of Research & Learning. Before joining SAR, he was Senior Director of Research at the human rights organization Freedom House, where he pioneered the organization’s work on transnational repression, or the targeting of exiles and diasporas. He has extensive experience in policy engagement with US and European institutions on democracy and human rights issues, and in researching and writing about Turkey and Central Asia. Nate has also worked as Deputy Director of the Intelligence Project at the Southern Poverty Law Center and as a journalist in Central Asia. He holds a Master’s in Russian and Eurasian Studies from Columbia University’s Harriman Institute.
