Shreya Balhara is Program Officer for Protection Services at Scholars at Risk. She assesses applications for placement from potentially at-risk scholars. In her role, she also works with scholars and universities to arrange positions of temporary refuge. Prior to joining SAR, Shreya worked at PEN America, conducting advocacy efforts to address free expression violations and managing the emergency fund for at-risk writers. She received her MBA from New York University’s Leonard N. Stern School of Business, her M.A. in Human Rights with a focus on housing and development from Columbia University, and her B.A. in Political Science from New York University.
