On July 10, 2022, anti-junta militants reportedly detonated two grenades at the gates of the Mandalay University of Foreign Languages.

Sources identified a group known as Generation Z Power (GZP) as suspects behind the attack targeting military forces that were reportedly stationed on the campus. (One source, Mizzima, suggests that GZP claimed responsibility for the attack.) No injuries were reported.

Scholars at Risk is concerned by armed conflict targeting higher education institutions and the military occupation and/or use of higher education facilities. State and non-state armed groups have a responsibility to refrain from occupying, using, or attacking higher education institutions, among other civilian objects.
