On March 9, 2023, a number of unidentified students vandalized the Student Union Office at Rajasthan University, and the office of Student Union President, Nirmal Chowdhary, for unknown reasons.
A group of students pelted stones, damaging the main door of the Student Union Office and destroying pots and coolers in both offices. The university administration asked for an inquiry into the university’s security system. A similar incident at the student union’s office has been reported in the past.
Scholars at Risk is concerned about the destruction of campus property and infrastructure. Such acts erode the right to education, and diminish everyone’s access to a safe, free and open university space. State and campus authorities should take all reasonable measures to prevent and respond to such incidents, including ensuring campus security and conducting prompt and thorough investigations, as appropriate.
