On March 15, 2024, unidentified hooded men stormed the campus of the University of Antioquia (UdeA). One of the men shot a student, injuring him.

University administrators reported between 40 to 50 hooded individuals entered the campus, vandalized it, and left graffiti on walls. Videos and photos posted on social media also showed the group setting a police vehicle on fire. Administrators closed the university for the remainder of the day.

The intrusion occurred amid heightened tensions over the elections for a new rector at UdeA.

Scholars at Risk is concerned about violent and destructive attacks on campus, apparently intended to prevent the functioning of a higher education institution. In addition to the harm to the immediate victims, such actions undermine academic freedom and democratic society generally.
