On February 18, 2025, members of Jatiyabadi Chatra Dal (JCD), the student wing of the Bangladesh National Party, and members of anti-discrimination movement (SAD) clashed at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET). Dozens of students were injured.

The clash occurred after dozens of BNP members attempted to recruit students on campus. The KUET administration banned student politics after widespread student protests occurred across the country leading to the fall of the Awami league government on August 5. The clash broke out after members of SAD confronted JCD and demanded they stop trying to recruit students.

A video posted on Facebook, showed members of both groups wielding scythes and machetes. It was not clear which group initiated the clash. Both JCD and SAD claimed that the other group was responsible.

The clash seriously injured around 50 students, with another 100 reporting minor injuries.

Scholars at Risk is concerned about violent attacks by students against other students. Scholars at Risk calls on all parties to exercise restraint and to avoid violence. State authorities have the right and obligation to maintain order, which they must with due regard for the rights of protesters and others, including the rights to free expression, academic freedom, peaceful assembly, and due process.
