On November 19, 2025, two universities in Negros received bomb threats.

Western Visayas State University–Himamaylan campus received a threat at 12:59 pm through a private Facebook message. Central Philippines State University received a threat at 1:30 am the following morning, also through Facebook.

Each threat cited “unfair treatment of faculty and staff to students.” Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and K9 teams investigated both campuses and declared them safe.

This incident was part of a series of bomb threats targeting universities across the Philippines from August to December 2025. The threats coincided with student-led anti-corruption protests and appeared to be intended to chill free expression.

Scholars at Risk is concerned about threats aimed at intimidating the high education community and disrupting classes and campus life. Such actions undermine academic freedom and university autonomy. State and university authorities should take reasonable steps to respond to and prevent such attacks, including by investigating and holding perpetrators accountable.
