On January 28, 2026, student protestors reportedly clashed with teachers during a protest at the Acropolis Institute Of Technology And Research (AITR).
Student members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged the protest, claiming the AITR administration was illegally charging students excessive fees and violating norms prescribed by the Admission & Fee Regulatory Committee. During the protest, students vandalized college property and climbed atop nearby cars.
Students argued and clashed with faculty and administrative staff who had arrived to pacify protesters and reduce tension. One teacher was reportedly assaulted by students, and one ABVP activist sustained a hand injury.
Scholars at Risk is concerned about on-campus clashes impeding the functioning of a university. All members of the higher education community must refrain from violence, especially on campus. Such incidents create a chilling effect on the academic community, threatening both institutional autonomy and the personal safety of scholars. In addition to the harm to the immediate victim, such incidents undermine academic freedom and democratic society generally.
