On February 15, 2026, Pakistani security forces killed Jangiyan Baloch, a university student from Panjgur district, Balochistan.
According to his family, soldiers of the Frontier Corps forcibly disappeared Baloch on May 26, 2025. Eight months later, his body was found in the Shapatan area of Panjgur.
The abduction follows a pattern of enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings of Baloch activists, professionals, journalists, and students, often carried out by Pakistan’s intelligence agencies, army, or Frontier Corps. Students are among the most commonly targeted of these groups.
Scholars at Risk is concerned about the enforced disappearance and extrajudicial killing of a student and sends condolences to Jangiyan Baloch’s family and community. State security forces must respect international human rights standards. In addition to the harm to the victims, lethal violence of a university leader undermines academic freedom and democratic society generally.
