On April 14, 2025, the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC) received a bomb threat, prompting the university to suspend classes.
The university administration activated security protocols the morning after the threat circulated on social media the previous evening. At 6:30 am, state security officials implemented preventive measures and closed the campus for a thorough inspection, turning away students who arrived for classes unaware of the situation.
No explosives were found, aligning with a recent trend of bomb threats disrupting activity in Baja California.
Scholars at Risk is concerned about threats aimed at intimidating the higher education community and disrupting classes and campus life. Such actions undermine academic freedom and university autonomy. State and university authorities should take reasonable steps to respond to and prevent such attacks, including by investigating and holding perpetrators accountable.
