Minority Languages in Iran

The University of Ottawa, through its Human Rights Research and Education Centre (HRREC) and the Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute, organized a presentation titled “Minority Languages in Iran from the Perspective of Language Rights: The Kurdish Case.” The session explored how Iranian governments have dealt with multilingualism (speech communities) throughout Iran’s modern history. Rahim SURKHI, specialized in Kurdish linguistics and a scholar at risk hosted at uOttawa and Carleton University, was accompanied by Professors Jérémie SÉROR, Associate Dean, Faculty of Arts & Director, Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute, and John PACKER, HRREC Director.
