Amicus Curiae on Academic Freedom Submitted to the Colombian Constitutional Court

Scholars at Risk and the Human Rights Clinic of the Human Rights Research and Education Centre at uOttawa submitted an Amicus Curiae before the Colombian Constitutional Court to help decide on a case that deals with academic freedom. The case refers to a professor of the University of Ibagué who was allegedly dismissed for reporting a series of incidents of sexual harassment and the lack of institutional policies on these issues. The organizations subscribing this document are asking that, if a violation of academic freedom is determined, the professor should be reinstated in her job, the University of Ibagué should design and adopt a protocol for preventing, reporting, and managing similar cases; and the Colombian government should conduct formal research on the issue of sexual violence in Colombian universities.
