The Academic Freedom Index is the first conceptually thorough assessment of academic freedom worldwide and part of a large data collection at the V-Dem Institute (University of Gothenburg). Professor Kinzelbach is one of the initiators of the Academic Freedom Index. The first index was presented in 2020.

The Swedish section of Scholars at Risk will take part in the Nordic Book Fair in Gothenburg on September 22-25th 2016. The focal theme for 2016 is freedom of expression and the Swedish section will be one of the organizers of the 2016 theme booth. The section will arrange several seminars related to freedom of expression at the fair. The fair attracts 100 000 visitors and 1500 journalist during the four-day programme.
