Scholars at Risk Sweden members hosted in total 10 threatened scholars with funding from Riksbankens Jubileumsfond

There has been a genuine interest at Swedish educational instiutions to support and an increased need to develop the forms and opportunities for hosting threatened researchers, thus in January 2017 Scholars at Risk Sweden (SAR-Sweden) applied for funding from the Riksbankens Jubileumsfond for the Advancement of the Humanities and Social Sciences to increase Sweden's acceptance of threatened researchers within Scholars at Risk (SAR).

Programme declaration for SAR-Sweden Section

The SAR-Sweden Section has just adopted a programme declaration. The programme declaration sets the direction for the work related to academic freedom in the world within the framework of the Swedish members' operations. The Swedish section will also further develop the cooperation around the hosting of scholars within the section.

There is an increased need for protection of academics at risk. In addition, there is a big interest among Swedish higher education institutions to be more engaged in SAR. To meet this demand and to allow for more scholars to be hosted within the network, SAR-Sweden has applied for funding from the foundation Riksbankens Jubileumsfond, says Karolina Catoni, coordinator SAR-Sweden.

Leaders from 17 universities across Sweden will convene on March 9, 2016, from 12:00 – 16:00 at the University of Gothenburg, to commemorate the launch of the Swedish Section of Scholars at Risk (SAR), a network of higher education institutions and individuals working to protect threatened scholars and promote academic freedom.
